When COVID-19 turned our world upside down, a huge number of people picked up and moved. Some wanted to be closer to family, others were looking for new jobs, and many just felt they’d be safer living somewhere else. I saw an opportunity to make sense of this massive shuffle of people through data visualization.
This dashboard is a powerful tool for understanding how COVID-19 reshaped our communities. City planners and government agencies can use it to properly allocate resources like housing, hospitals, schools based on their changing populations. Researchers can study what societal forces motivated people’s decisions to uproot their lives during the crisis.
At its core, this project blends technical know-how with a commitment to unearthing plain truths from mountains of data. It showcases my passion for using technology to advance our collective knowledge and understanding of the human experience, even during extraordinary times like a world-altering pandemic. When the ground is constantly shifting beneath us, visualizations like this provide much-needed solid footing.
